Here are some suggestions for reading. All these books are very readable. For advice please contact Christine Bloomfield.
SOURCE. The Holy Spirit and the
Theology of
Life Jūrgen Moltmann, Emeritus professeur of sytematic
theology in the University of Tūbingen. Don't be put off by the title
of this
author. This is a not a difficult read, but it is a great one!
The Challenge of Jesus. Tom
Wright. This book asks
the question "Why do we need a historical understanding of Jesus? How
can this
affect Christian discipleship today". Tom Wright is Bishop of Durham.
Anything
by him is worth reading.
Simply Christian. Also by Tom
Wright. This is a
good introduction to the Christian faith.
God of Surprises. Gerard W
Hughes. This is a very
helpful book of spiritual guidance. The author has a rare gift of
helping us
to understand ourselves and our spiritual searching.
Walk to Jerusalem. Gerard W.
Hughes. The author
sets out on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. He sets his thoughts down in
this
excellent book.
The Return of the Prodigal Son.
Henri J.M. Nouwen.
Read it!!!!
The Diving Bell and the
Butterfly. Jean Dominique
Bauby. Stricken with Locked in Syndrome, the author and journalist
found
himself completely paralysed, speechless and able only to move one
eyelid With
his eyelid, he "dictated" this remarkable book. This book was also
made into a
film. It delves into what it means to be human and, for me, addresses
the
question of euthanasia and what the gift of life really means.
Life Together. Dietrich
Bonhoeffer. This is a
wonderful book about what it means to be a community. Truly excellent!
The things he carried. Stephen
Cotterell, Bishop
of Reading. A book for Lent which is highly recommended.
